Police are calling on citizens to beware of a fraudulent campaign via WhatsApp messages.
NOTICE
State Police/Warning about phishing campaign on the “WhatsApp” platform
The Directorate for the Investigation of Cybercrime warns citizens about the circulation of a fraudulent (phishing) campaign on the "WhatsApp" platform.
These messages appear as a request to vote for the first prize of a free scholarship, in favor of a person close to the sender, who is suspected of having previously fallen prey to this scam, subsequently leading to the message being spread to his contacts.
The messages aim to take control of the account on the WhatsApp application, directing users to fake pages and urging them to enter verification codes, which are used by the perpetrators to take over the account.
⚠️ The State Police calls on citizens:
• Do not click on suspicious links, even when the message comes from known contacts;
• Do not provide verification codes, passwords or personal data;
• Activate two-step verification in the “WhatsApp” application;
• Report any suspicious cases to the State Police structures.
The State Police is monitoring the situation and invites citizens to show maximum caution towards messages offering votes, prizes or immediate benefits.
