A serious car accident has claimed the life of 16-year-old Albanian Eljon Metaj in Greece, while two other teenagers were injured. The incident occurred on Friday evening on “Dhimokratias” street, in the Luca area, on the outskirts of Athens. According to preliminary information, one of the young men had taken his mother’s car keys from his bag and, together with two friends, had gone out to move around the area.
For reasons that are still under investigation, the vehicle, which was traveling at a speed exceeding the permitted speed limits, left the road and crashed into a tree. As a result of the collision, 16-year-old Eljon Metaj died at the scene, while the driver and the other passenger were transported to the hospital, where their lives are out of danger.
The Greek police have detained the driver of the vehicle, while his parents have been accompanied to the hospital for further procedural actions. The victim's body has been sent to the morgue for the relevant examinations.
Investigations to fully elucidate the circumstances of the accident are being conducted by the Traffic Police of the Athens Police Directorate.
