A new investigation dubbed “Hondurasgate” claims that leaked audio recordings link Donald Trump, Argentine President Javier Miel and former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández to an alleged operation to create a fake news network aimed at destabilizing the governments of Mexico and Colombia. According to a report by the Spanish newspaper EL PAÍS, Hernández allegedly discussed setting up a “digital media center” in the United States, funded with hundreds of thousands of dollars, to spread disinformation against Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, as well as political opponents in Honduras.
The report states that the recordings were taken from conversations on WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram and were analyzed with advanced voice verification tools, also used by intelligence agencies around the world.
The accusations become even stronger, as it is alleged that Hernández's presidential pardon by Donald Trump was linked to a broader political agreement, involving international right-wing networks and allies linked to Israel.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that she had listened to the recordings and warned of the existence of an international network that, according to her, is conducting disinformation campaigns against progressive governments.
