Palestinian journalist Yahya Sobeih was killed in Gaza just five hours after witnessing the birth of his newborn daughter, Sana, in a story that has deeply affected public opinion and the Palestinian media community.
According to his wife, Amal Sobeih, the journalist accompanied her to the hospital in the early hours of the morning and got to meet their third daughter for the first time. He held her in his arms, took pictures with the baby, and then left to return home, in order to get some necessary things for the baby.
A few hours later, Yahya Sobeih was killed in an Israeli airstrike that hit a shopping area in Gaza City. Other people, including several of his relatives, were also killed in the attack.
Amal Sobeih was still in hospital after giving birth when she learned the tragic news. She said she only realised her husband had been killed after seeing reports online, describing the moment as devastating.
The journalist's widow is now raising her three children alone amid the war and constant displacement in Gaza. She has also continued to work in the same media field where her husband worked.
Amal said her daughter, Sana, will grow up with the memory that the day she was born coincides with the day she lost her father.
"I wanted to say goodbye, but I couldn't," Amal said, describing the loss as a wound that will never heal.
