Ervin Salianji has raised questions about the simultaneous presence of Edi Rama and Sali Berisha at Rinas Airport, asking the leader of the Democratic Party to make public whether he met with the prime minister and, if so, what was discussed between them.
Rama and Berisha were at the airport this Sunday at almost the same time. The Prime Minister had just returned from a visit to the US and then gave his public message on the latest developments, while Berisha was in Rinas about to leave for Strasbourg.
Salianji goes further and claims that it is not the first time that the two political opponents have "coincidentally" found themselves in the airport's VIP area.
"Sali Berisha has a political and moral obligation to make public what was discussed with Edi Rama at the airport," says Salianji, raising a series of questions for the leader of the DP.
"What was discussed? Did Edi Rama withdraw his resignation after this conversation? Were mutual guarantees of each other's inviolability discussed? Was there any agreement to hold Albania hostage to an old political scheme?", asks Salianji.
He argues that the simultaneous presence of Rama and Berisha in the VIP area of Rinas requires transparency, especially since, according to him, this is the second time that such a coincidence has occurred.
There has been no public confirmation so far that Rama and Berisha met or had a conversation at the airport. Reports so far only confirm the presence of both in Rinas at the same time.
Salijanj's statement comes in the wake of his criticism of both Rama and the current opposition leadership. Just two days ago, he declared that Berisha's stay at the head of the DP is, according to him, a "guarantee" for Rama's continuation in power.
In his latest reaction, Salianji demands Rama's removal through citizen protests, but at the same time asks Berisha to publicly explain what happened today in Rinas.
"Albania cannot be held hostage by secret agreements, political bargains or personal guarantees," concludes Salianji.
