A US F-15E fighter jet crashed over Iranian territory yesterday, marking one of the largest US losses inside the country since the conflict began on February 28.
The plane had two people on board: a pilot and a weapons officer. According to reports from American media, one of them was rescued by American special forces, while the search for the second person continues.
Meanwhile, an Iranian television channel has announced that a $60,000 reward has been set for citizens who manage to capture the missing American pilot and hand him over to police or military authorities.
A statement addressed to residents of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces said:
"Military forces have launched a search operation for the downed American pilot earlier today. Dear citizens, if you capture the enemy pilot alive and hand him over to the police or military forces, you will be rewarded with 60 thousand dollars," the response said.
According to American sources, photos and videos published on social media and in Iranian media show American helicopters and other aircraft flying at low altitude over the crash site, as part of search and rescue operations.
