The Special Court of Appeals dismissed Ilir Beqaj's appeal against the security measure, leaving the measure of "prison arrest" in force for the former Minister of Health.
Beqaj had requested the replacement of the security measure from "prison arrest" to "house arrest", but his request had previously been rejected by the Special Court of First Instance (GJKKO). In an attempt to alleviate the measure, the former minister had also offered a financial guarantee, but this request was not accepted by the court.
Like the GJKKO, the Special Appeal also decided that Beqaj should continue to remain in detention.
The former Minister of Health is facing charges in the sterilization concession case, while another criminal case is being investigated against him related to suspicions of abuse of European Union funds, during the time he headed the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination (SASPAK).
