US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired the US Army Chief of Staff, General Randy George, just a month after the start of the war with Iran.
According to reports from several international media outlets, including Reuters, CBS News and Axios, George has been ordered to retire immediately, even though his four-year term had not ended.
The Pentagon has not given an official reason for the decision, but the move is seen as part of a military leadership reorganization at a sensitive time, as the US has numerous forces deployed in the Middle East due to the conflict with Iran.
General Christopher LaNeve is expected to be appointed in his place on an interim basis, while the decision has sparked debate about the stability of the US military command during an active conflict.
