A microphone on at China's military parade in Tiananmen Square captured an unusual conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. As they walked at the head of the foreign delegation, Putin's interpreter was heard saying: "Biotechnology is constantly developing... human organs can be transplanted endlessly. The longer you live, the younger you become, and you can even achieve immortality."
Xi replied: "Some predict that in this century people could live up to 150 years." Putin later confirmed to reporters that he had discussed with Xi ways to increase life expectancy.
Both leaders, who have changed laws to stay in power indefinitely, have long been obsessed with the science of life extension. Putin has ordered the establishment of a research center for anti-aging technologies, while his close friend Mikhail Kovalchuk has been entrusted with the “immortality” project by printing organs in the laboratory. Putin’s daughter, Maria Vorontsova, has received millions of euros in state grants for genetic research on cell regeneration.
Footage showed Putin and Xi chatting next to a smiling North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un. The three then ascended the grandstand to watch China's largest military parade ever, with 50,000 spectators and an arsenal ranging from tanks, drones and fighter jets to nuclear-capable missiles.
The parade was seen as a show of defiance against the West.
Xi used the moment to declare that China is a great nation that “does not fear bullying” and that “the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable.” His message was read as a clear signal to the US and its Western allies./The Guardian/
