French President Emmanuel Macron has reacted sharply to the Israeli government's announcement of the expansion of military operations in the Gaza Strip, including the Mawas camps, as well as plans to reoccupy Palestinian territories.
Citing sources from the Elysée Palace, Macron described the decision as “a catastrophe waiting to happen with unprecedented severity and an immediate rush towards a permanent war.” He warned that escalating the conflict would bring grave humanitarian consequences and close any possibility of lasting peace.
France has proposed a UN-mandated stabilization mission tasked with securing the Gaza Strip, protecting the civilian population and supporting the Palestinian government. According to Macron, only an international mechanism with broad legitimacy can stop the spiral of violence and create the conditions for a lasting political solution.
The crisis in Gaza has intensified in recent months with heavy bombardment and fierce clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian groups, while the international community remains divided on how to intervene.
