The crisis within the Labour Party is deepening, as more and more Labour MPs are publicly calling for the departure of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Sally Jameson became the first parliamentary assistant minister (PAM) to publicly call on Starmer to set a deadline for his resignation. Jameson, MP for Doncaster Central and part of the Home Office team, is technically bound by the government's collective responsibility, making her statement all the more politically significant.
Just a few minutes later, Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi also declared that she had lost confidence in Starmer.
"Keir Starmer is a man of great integrity who has led the Labour Party through difficult times. There will be those who will disagree with me, but I honestly think the time has come for him to step down as prime minister in an orderly manner," Antoniazzi declared.
She added that she will release a further statement tomorrow.
The statements by the two MPs come at a time of strong tensions within Labour and increase the pressure on Starmer, as criticism of his leadership is becoming increasingly public within the ruling party.
