Fall from the pinnacle of power to the detention cell. One of the most powerful men in the security apparatus in Serbia, the director of the Belgrade Police, Veselin Milić, has been arrested on suspicion that he not only knew about a serious crime, but also helped cover it up and the victim's body disappear.
According to the investigation, the incident is related to the mysterious disappearance of a 52-year-old man, who was last seen at a restaurant in the elite Senjak area of Belgrade. What started as a disappearance case is turning into a scandal that shakes the very heart of Serbian security structures.
The prosecution has raised serious suspicions against Milić for failing to report a crime and aiding the suspected perpetrator of the murder. Immediately after his arrest, the Serbian Interior Ministry announced his dismissal from duty, sealing the spectacular downfall of one of the most powerful police figures in the country.
The owner and waiter of the restaurant where the victim was last seen have also been arrested, as well as two other people suspected of attempted murder. Investigations are expanding amid suspicions that behind the disappearance lies a whole chain of cover-up and silence that affects high levels of the law enforcement system.
