US Vice President JD Vance has accused European Union officials in Brussels of interfering in the Hungarian election, calling it "one of the worst examples of foreign electoral interference" he has ever seen.
During a public statement, Vance sharply criticized what he called "the bureaucracy in Brussels," saying it has tried to damage Hungary's economy.
"They did this because they hate this man," Vance said, referring to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, while calling the intervention "shameful."
He called on Hungarian voters not to see the debate as whether someone is pro or anti-Europe or the US, but to assess who is "pro-the people of Hungary."
"I have seen a man who has vigorously defended the interests of Hungary," Vance said of Orbán.
At the end of his statement, Vance said that one of the reasons he was in Hungary was precisely what he called excessive interference by the Brussels bureaucracy, adding that he would not tell Hungarians how to vote, but called on European officials to do the same.
