The Greek Armed Forces have been put on alert after the discovery of an unmanned aerial vehicle, equipped with explosives, near the island of Lefkada in Greece.
According to Greek media, the vehicle was found on Thursday inside a cave in the coastal area, and the Coast Guard was immediately notified, which towed it to the nearby port of Vasiliki for further examination.
Initial reports indicate that the drone was carrying an explosive charge and its engine was still operating at the time of its discovery, which has raised serious concerns about its dangerous nature.
Some sources in the Greek press have suggested that the vehicle may have originated in Ukraine or be linked to developments in the Russia–Ukraine War, although these claims have not been officially confirmed.
Greek media, including the newspaper Ta Nea, report that the drone resembles the MAGURA V5 naval model, which has previously been used in naval military operations.
Greek military experts are now analyzing the object to determine whether it was a technical defect, loss of control or a planned attack mission.
One of the hypotheses being considered is that the drone may have been designed for operations against Russia's so-called "shadow fleet", which is used to transport oil and gas to evade Western sanctions imposed after the start of the war in 2022.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities have not commented on reports linking the vehicle to their military forces, while investigations continue to determine the origin and exact purpose of the drone.
