The European Union has officially reacted to the statements made by the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, to the EU Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, describing them as unacceptable.
In a reaction to Euronews Albania, a European Commission spokesperson stated that the European Union strongly condemns the personal attacks made against Ambassador Gonzato on Europe Day.
"Such statements are unacceptable. The EU strongly condemns the personal attacks made on Europe Day against the European Union Ambassador to Albania," the response states.
According to the statement, Ambassador Gonzato has performed his duties with complete professionalism and integrity.
"The EU Ambassador has acted at all times with complete professionalism and integrity. We have full confidence in him and his work," the European Commission spokesperson stressed.
The reaction comes at a moment of political tensions and after Berisha's public statements to the European Union representative in Tirana, which have also brought other diplomatic reactions in support of Ambassador Gonzato.
