An Israeli airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip killed four Palestinians on Sunday, according to local health authorities, in another incident that threatens an already fragile ceasefire as mediators try to solidify the deal.
According to medics, the attack hit a group of people on Jaffa Street, near the Darraj neighborhood in Gaza City, killing four people and wounding several others.
For its part, the Israeli military said its forces in northern Gaza had struck and killed members of a Palestinian militant cell that was operating near Israeli troops and posed an immediate threat.
The war of accusations between Hamas and Israel over violations of a ceasefire that came into effect last October continues. The agreement ended two years of open fighting, but tensions remain high.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 700 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began. Israel, on the other hand, says four Israeli soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza during the same period.
Meanwhile, a Hamas delegation met in Cairo with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey to discuss a disarmament proposal presented last month.
According to diplomatic sources, Hamas has made it clear that it will not discuss handing over weapons without guarantees that Israel will fully withdraw from Gaza, as envisaged in the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.
