United States President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, declaring that any Iranian attack on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz will be followed by American strikes on Tehran's strategic infrastructure.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the US would bomb Iranian bridges or power plants whenever Iran attacks a merchant ship, regardless of the weapon used.
"From this moment forward, whenever the Islamic Republic of Iran fires on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether with a missile, shell, drone, or any other weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy a bridge or power plant, including those located near or within Tehran," the US president wrote.
The statement comes at a time when tensions between the two countries continue to escalate. Since last week, the US has launched a series of attacks on targets on Iranian territory, while Tehran has responded by striking bases and facilities used by the US military in various countries in the Middle East.
Clashes have continued even though in June the US and Iran signed, with the mediation of Pakistan, a framework agreement that aimed to end the conflict that began in February and pave the way for a lasting peace agreement.
Trump's latest statements signal another escalation of tensions, as the international community continues to express concern about the risk of expanding the conflict in the region.
