The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, has launched an investigation into the issue of salaries of judges and prosecutors. As part of the investigation, it is learned that documents have been seized from the premises of the Parliament and the Ministry of Finance.
The investigation is related to the manner in which the new salary scheme for magistrates was drafted and approved, while SPAK is verifying the documentation and procedures followed by the responsible institutions.
The investigative actions come at a time when the proposal to change the salaries of judges and prosecutors has caused strong political and institutional debate. The opposition has opposed the draft presented by the majority, raising claims about the way it was drafted and its compliance with constitutional principles and the independence of the justice system.
The seizure of documents from the Assembly and the Ministry of Finance aims to secure materials related to the process of preparing, discussing and approving the proposed amendments.
