The Vjosa River has marked an alarming increase in water levels, exceeding 9 meters and reaching near the red mark, where agricultural land and homes have been flooded. The situation is also problematic in Memaliaj, where the river level has reached 7.5 meters above sea level, indicating high flows as a result of intense rainfall.
According to data, the Vjosa has covered the hydrometric measuring unit, while about 100 hectares of land have been flooded. So far, 14 homes are reported to have been affected by the water.
As a result of the increase in flows, the presence of water has also been detected at the Kafaraj Pumping Station, in the Frakull Administrative Unit, from where the water supply to the city of Fier is provided, raising concerns about the continuity of the service.
Intense rainfall has continued since Tuesday, while local authorities are continuously monitoring the situation, calling on residents in at-risk areas to exercise increased caution.
