The fire in the Blue Eye area has been burning since yesterday, posing a serious threat to nature, residents and tourists. Since the early hours of this morning, a Canadair aircraft and a helicopter have been deployed to extinguish the flames, in an attempt to contain the further spread of the fire.
A day earlier, around 500 tourists were evacuated from the area due to the high risk posed by the fire, while the Muzinë-Saranda road was closed after flames reached the side of the road, making vehicle traffic impossible.
The situation is also alarming in Finiq, where the fire has engulfed several villages and caused material damage, including the burning of several homes. In the Lekël area, in Tepelena, the flames have spread rapidly due to strong winds, making it difficult for firefighters to intervene.
Authorities are on full alert, while urging residents and visitors to avoid at-risk areas and follow civil emergency instructions.
