Life in Albania is becoming more and more difficult for families every day, due to the significant increase in basic living costs. According to data published by INSTAT, an average family needs about 93 thousand lek per month to cover minimal expenses.
In the capital, this figure increases to around 108 thousand lekë, making Tirana the most expensive city in the country. The INSTAT report also analyzed how expenses vary depending on the educational level of the head of the household.
During 2024, households headed by a highly educated head spent less compared to the previous year, indicating more careful budget management. While households with a lower level of education showed an increase in spending.
This trend shows that the level of education does not directly affect the total amount spent, but is closely related to the ability to save and better plan income.
Compared to other cities, Tirana remains difficult to afford financially for individuals with single salaries, mainly due to the rapid increase in prices and utility costs.
Also, the taxation of dual-employed people in the capital is seen as a controversial policy, which according to many observers negatively affects the standard of living and increases economic hardship for citizens.
