Hundreds of hectares of agricultural land planted with various crops were flooded this morning in the village of Murqinë in Kruja. The cause of the situation was the overflow of the Ishëm River, following heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours.
The village's outskirts, which connects the area to the rest of the territory, are completely isolated. The road is covered in water, which in some segments reaches up to 40 centimeters, making traffic possible only for high-altitude vehicles.
So far, there are no reports of other damage or endangered residents, but local authorities say that the situation remains dependent on the intensity of rainfall and river flows from Tirana. If the rains continue at the same pace, the flooding risks worsening.
Murqina is one of the areas that regularly floods every year. In the past, the evacuation of residents in some neighborhoods has required the intervention of rescue workers with rubber boats and even the use of helicopters.
Despite the history of flooding and the recurring risk, residents emphasize that no sustainable measures have been taken to improve the situation for decades.
