The Muslim Community of Albania (MCA) has publicly reacted against the draft law on inclusive gender, expressing concern that it conflicts with the country's religious values, biological nature, and social traditions.
In an official statement, the KMSH emphasizes that it was not involved or consulted in the drafting of this draft law and that notification of it was only received through email and online media.
"These changes do not take into account tradition, biological nature and social morality, and instead of bringing solutions, they create more problems," the statement said.
The KMSH opposes the inclusion of the term "inclusive" in the legal definition of gender, considering it an ambiguous notion that could lead to confusion in the practical application of the law and undermine the social structure.
Gender according to Islam: Male and female
Referring to the texts of the Quran, the Muslim Community emphasizes that according to the Islamic religion, gender is a category defined by God in two forms: male and female. The verses mentioned in the statement reinforce the idea that any attempt to add or invent other gender identities is considered a deviation from the truth of creation.
Danger to the institution of the family
The KMSH also expresses concern that such a definition of gender could have serious consequences for the institution of the family, which, according to them, is built on the natural union of man and woman.
"Giving legal status to ambiguous gender notions can lead to misinterpretation in education, employment, and social life," the statement further states.
Greater involvement of religious institutions is required
The Muslim Community emphasizes the importance of religious institutions having a more active role in consultations on far-reaching social issues, especially when it comes to values such as family, morality, and social order.
"Laws cannot be drafted on such sensitive issues without taking into account the spiritual and cultural dimension that religious institutions represent," the statement concludes.
