A historic moment was marked today in the heart of Bavaria, during the world's largest folk festival, Oktoberfest, which has been held since 1810. For the first time in its history, traditional Albanian clothing and culture were presented in the grand Trachten- und Schützenzug parade, one of the most important activities of the festival.
Around 9,000 participants from traditional costume associations in Bavaria and across Europe took part in this unique parade, which included over 60 groups in historical and folkloric costumes. Among them, Albania and Kosovo took part for the first time, bringing the colors, heritage and rich symbolism of Albanian clothing.
This special achievement was made possible thanks to the dedication of the “Iliria München” Association, which has contributed to the preservation and promotion of Albanian culture in Bavaria for 25 years. With the support of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, a representative group of 40 members proudly paraded in traditional clothing from all Albanian regions, led by the Xhubleta – the Albanian women’s dress, which represents a 4,000-year-old heritage and has been recognized by UNESCO as a symbol of Albanian resilience and identity throughout the centuries.
In this grand parade, the Albanian flag was held by the Consul General of the Republic of Albania in Munich, dressed in the traditional costume of Southern women, while the Kosovo flag was held by the Consul General of the Republic of Kosovo.
The parade, which covered 7 kilometers on the main streets of Munich, was attended by about 6 million visitors from all over the world and was broadcast live on television, giving a great echo to Albanian culture in the international arena. This presentation represents not only an achievement of the Albanian diaspora in Germany, but also a clear proof of appreciation and respect for our national heritage.
