Worshippers at the Jamie Usmania Mosque in Bradford, UK, are combining worship with health care.
After the noon prayer, mostly elderly men aged 50–80 gather on the ground floor for a weekly Pilates class, which combines physical exercise with community socialization.
The 45-minute sessions, with around 30 participants, include squats, stretching and balance exercises, followed by tea, fruit and biscuits.
After a video of the class went viral on the mosque's social media, leaders say they have received requests to repeat the program in other mosques in Britain, as well as in Malaysia and Canada.
Organizers aim to expand the initiative with Pilates classes for women and social clubs for young people.
