Residents of the Rrjoll area, in Velipojë, have blocked the road for machinery belonging to the Gener 2 company, owned by businessman Bashkim Ulaj, since the early hours of the morning. The company is building a luxury resort in the area, while residents have been protesting for days, claiming that their property has been stolen.
State Police forces arrived around 08:30, enabling the residents to leave the road and opening the passage for the company's machinery.
During the intervention, the police escorted 6 people to the police station for resisting the police. The residents then gathered in the center of the village, declaring to the media that they will not retreat from protecting their land. They appealed to Prime Minister Edi Rama and the justice institutions to resolve the situation.
"We went at 6:30 to prevent machinery from entering our properties. At 9:00, vans came and rushed us in spacesuits. Why don't they help us? We want justice. If necessary, we can go to jail, but we won't give up our land," said one of the residents.
