One year ago today, Martin Cani, 14, was stabbed to death just a few meters from the Fan Noli school in Tirana. His friend Luisi was injured. Today, Martin's parents, friends and civil society activists gathered in a protest-homage.
Those present hold placards "1 year without Martin" and demand justice. Martin's parents said they have requested that the school gym be named after their son, but have received a negative response. The family has also requested that a bench with Martin's name be placed at the school in his memory.
Activists once again raised the issue of school safety.
Yesterday, the Tirana prosecution requested a 25-year prison sentence for the suspected perpetrator of the murder of Mario Përlleshaj. The murder of Martin and the injury of his friend were followed by strong protests.
