The Elbasan region has been affected by unstable weather conditions in recent hours, accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall and hail. In mountainous areas, at altitudes over 700 meters above sea level, snowfall has begun, creating the need for continuous monitoring of the situation, especially on road axes.
According to reports, all national road axes in the region are currently open for traffic. On the Elbasan-Qafë Thanë axis, specifically in the Qafë Thanë area, snowfall has required traffic management by the Traffic Police services, which are guaranteeing the movement of vehicles without major problems.
On the Gramsh-Moglica axis, the presence of stones was observed in several segments, as a result of rainfall, but the situation was normalized after the immediate intervention of the contracting company, which cleaned the road.
Regarding the water situation, the flows of the Shkumbin River and the Zaranika Stream do not present any problems so far. The Moglicë HPP continues to discharge at a rate of 390 m³/second, in parallel with the production of electricity. These flows have not caused any problems in the Municipality of Cërrik, except for the outflow of the Devoll River at some points, causing flooding of some agricultural land areas.
In the Belsh Municipality, specifically in the village of Shelg of the Grekan Administrative Unit, the situation remains unchanged. As a result of the high flows of the Devoll River, flooding of barren and agricultural lands continues, without any danger to homes.
The electricity supply in the region appears generally stable. However, interruptions have been reported in the Klos and Mollas Administrative Units, as a result of the fall of several electricity poles damaged by the Devoll River. The relevant structures are monitoring the situation to restore normal supply as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, heavy snowfall has resumed in the Qafë Thana area, in the territory of Pogradec. Currently, vehicle traffic is being carried out without the use of chains, while contractors are on the ground carrying out continuous salting and cleaning of the road.
Authorities report that, after the blockage of the Qukës-Qafë Plloçë axis four days ago due to landslides, Qafë Thana currently remains the only open axis connecting the southeast of the country with central Albania, making this segment vital for traffic.
According to forecasts, snowfall is expected to continue in the coming hours. Several snow removal vehicles have been made available to guarantee traffic, while temperatures are around 0 degrees Celsius. Authorities are calling on drivers to exercise increased caution while driving.
The situation on the Qafë Plloçë-Qukës axis, known as the "golden road", continues to remain problematic. In the area called Ura e Golikut, there is a massive landslide of soil and inert materials, while at the exit of the village of Udenisht towards Pogradec, the presence of water has been detected on the national road.
As a result of the floods and landslides, 1 family in the village of Çërravë, 3 families in the village of Dardhas and 1 family in the village of Verdovë have been evacuated, due to erosion of the foundation by the Verdovë River. In the village of Çezmë, Trebinje Administrative Unit, landslides have been recorded, but currently no homes are at risk and the situation is being monitored by the relevant authorities.
