One of the masters of clay processing in Korça, Vasillaq Kolevica, has chosen a special way to express his indignation at the behavior of Albanian citizens towards politics, through his latest work, titled "Spermatozoids".
The artist explains that the installation symbolizes citizens who "go out of use" and cast their votes without thinking, considering this act as a reflection of today's Albanian society. "It's an installation, 'Spermatozoids', but they are unfertilized, deaf. I look at these people, without a brain in their heads, they see elections as a football match," says Kolevica.
The 66-year-old, who has spent his entire life working with clay and turning it into art, says that this time he has created more than one or two works, to reflect the majority of Albanian society as unfulfilled and wasted. He also highlights the difficulties of financing art, noting that artists often do not receive support to present their works.
Vasillaq Kolevica is known as one of the best clay artists in Albania and has won national and international awards for his works. The installation “Spermatozoa” aims to attract public attention and encourage reflection on the relationship between society and politics.
