The Albanian government is planning to expand the public administration next year. The 2026 draft budget plans to employ 87,012 budget employees, including 100 reserve employees for central government institutions.
In the current year, the public administration has a total of 86,314 employees, including 276 reserve employees for local government institutions. However, compared to 2024, when the administration had 85,274 staff, the 2026 draft budget increased the number of state administration employees by 1,838. According to the draft budget, the increase is related to the need for more efficient services and the coverage of several sectors that have had personnel shortages.
But which institutions have the most, the fewest, and no employees at all?
According to the draft budget data, the three institutions that list the most employees are the Ministry of Education with 30,883 employees, the Ministry of Internal Affairs with 15,791 employees, while the Ministry of Defense has a total of 9,299 employees.
Meanwhile, the institutions with the fewest employees are the National Accounting Council with 6 employees, the State Committee for Cults with 10 employees, and the National Cinematography Center with 13 employees.
