US Central Command has announced that American forces have launched new attacks on targets in Iran, marking the ninth consecutive night of military operations.
In a statement, CENTCOM said the strikes were aimed at weakening Iranian military capabilities that it said were being used to attack commercial vessels and civilian sailors transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported explosions in the north and south of the country, without providing details on the targets hit.
In response, Iran fired missiles towards Jordan, raising fears of an expansion of the conflict in the region and the involvement of neighboring countries.
The developments come after the US confirmed the deaths of two US service members in Jordan who were hit by Iranian missiles and drones. CENTCOM also announced that human remains, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, were found during search operations for a missing soldier.
In another incident, a US soldier was killed in Iraq during a controlled explosion of an Iran-linked device.
