Iran has attacked Saudi Arabia overnight, in what is the first such strike in nearly three months, according to two sources cited by the Reuters news agency.
The attacks triggered early warning systems in the Al Kharj area, east of the capital Riyadh, as well as in Yanbu, along the Red Sea coast.
According to sources, one of the possible targets was Prince Sultan Air Base, a facility where American forces are also stationed.
Saudi state media confirmed that early warning alarms had been activated, but gave no details on their cause or the nature of the threat.
Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has not claimed responsibility and has not made any statements about an attack on Saudi Arabia.
The development comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East remain high, as clashes between Iran and US allies have raised concerns about further escalation in the region.
