Two American soldiers have been killed in Jordan during a ballistic missile and drone attack carried out by Iran, the US Central Command has announced.
According to the official statement, another soldier is missing, while four other members of the American forces were injured and sent for treatment to Jordanian hospitals.
These are the first American casualties from a direct Iranian attack since the start of the conflict.
Jordan, home to US military bases and personnel, has been hit several times by Iran as the conflict in the region escalates.
"Two American soldiers were killed in action while CENTCOM forces and their partners were defending positions from Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. In addition, one soldier remains missing," the US command said in a statement.
CENTCOM added that, out of respect for the victims' families, the identities of the slain soldiers will not be made public until their next of kin have been officially notified.
