Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić commented on the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro after a meeting of the National Security Council, stating that the international order is disintegrating and that the world is being ruled by the law of force.
Vučić stressed that Serbia is in an increasingly complex position in Southeast Europe, at a time when, according to him, the old world order is collapsing and international rules are no longer enforced.
"We are aware of the complexity of the position that our country has in this region, and this complexity will be increasingly pronounced, given the fact that the old order in the world is collapsing and no rules are applied anymore. Public international law practically does not exist, while the UN order exists only on paper," Vučić declared.
He added that the recent events in Venezuela clearly show, in his opinion, that the United Nations Charter no longer functions. "The world is being dominated by the law of force and the law of the strongest. Whoever is stronger, oppresses," said the Serbian president.
In his speech, Vučić also focused on the security situation in the region, expressing concern about the further armament of Pristina and its cooperation with Croatia and Albania.
"We are concerned about the further armament of Pristina, as well as the alliance with Croatia and Albania. They plan to develop more complex systems and Serbia is following these developments closely," he said.
Vučić stressed that Serbia is not only monitoring the situation, but is also preparing for its defense. “We believe that our strength will be a sufficient deterrent and that we will achieve our main goal, which is to maintain peace and stability in Serbia,” he concluded.
