
Around two million citizens of Kosovo are participating today in early parliamentary elections, announced after the failure of the legislature emerging from the February 9 elections to approve either of the two proposed government cabinets.
Voting began at 07:00, and 1,999,024 citizens are eligible to vote to elect the tenth legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo.
The Vetëvendosje Movement's candidate for prime minister, Albin Kurti, voted in Pristina at around 09:40. The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, exercised his right to vote in South Mitrovica at around 10:00, calling for a high citizen turnout. The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, voted at around 09:00 in Gllogjan.
Around 100 prosecutors and support staff have been engaged to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process.
24 political entities with a total of 1,180 candidates for deputies are competing in these elections. Of these, 8 Albanian entities with 624 candidates are competing for 100 seats in the Assembly, while the rest represent non-Albanian communities, competing for the 20 guaranteed seats.
