About a month away from the day of the partial elections in 6 municipalities, the Democratic Party and the opposition still do not have the names of candidates for the electoral race. Today, in the afternoon, at the meeting of the Presidency of the DP, the candidates were discussed again and it seems that the formula that is expected to be applied in this election is independent figures. The blue headquarters will support an independent candidate who publicly states that he will be a candidate. He will be registered as an independent and will be publicly supported by the opposition coalition. He will be independent in the Central Election Commission. The confirmation came from the leader of the Democrat Party, Sali Berisha, who said that the DP will consider with the greatest seriousness independent candidates who will show interest in these elections.
"The DP greatly appreciates and values independent candidacies. We will consider with the greatest seriousness independent candidates who compete as such and who are considered necessary for their victory, the support of the DP. I believe that other opposition forces are also in a wave with this from the previous discussions," said Berisha.
The leader of the Democratic Party also said that he has given two days to independent candidates to express their interest in running.
Asked by journalists whether the three names published for Tirana, namely Edlira Çepani, Ermal Hasimja and Florian Haçkaj, were burned, Berisha hinted that they are not completely independent figures but names proposed by allies. Therefore, he called on the elite and intellectuals of these cities to propose themselves as independent candidates and receive the support of the opposition. This formula and last-minute solution of the DP and the opposition, in these elections, is somewhat unclear.
