The new head of SPAK is expected to be elected tomorrow, while the main embassies in Tirana have called on members of the High Prosecutorial Council to conduct the process with transparency and high standards of accountability.
A US Embassy official, asked by journalist Klodiana Lala, emphasized the importance of the institution's independence.
"SPAK remains a valued partner of the United States in the fight against international crime," the American official stated, underlining that the independence and unimpeded functioning of the Special Prosecution Office are crucial for the security of citizens.
The European Union also reacted through a post on social media, sharing part of Ambassador Silvio Gonzato's speech at the joint meeting between the KLGJ and the KLP. In the statement, the EU expressed expectations for maximum responsibility from the KLP members on the eve of the vote.
"The members of the KLP will demonstrate the highest level of responsibility and will ensure that the Special Prosecutor's Office is led by a person with unquestionable integrity, independence, competence and commitment to the best EU standards," the EU embassy said in a statement.
The British Embassy in Tirana has also taken the same line of stance, emphasizing the importance of a fair and transparent process.
"The election of the Head of SPAK is an important step in Albania's progress in strengthening the rule of law and the fight against corruption. It is important that the High Prosecutorial Council conducts this process in a free, fair and transparent manner. The United Kingdom looks forward to working with whoever is elected to continue and strengthen our excellent relationship," the embassy wrote.
The plenary session for interviewing and voting on the candidates will be held on Thursday at 09:00, where a broad diplomatic presence is expected, with representatives from the US, Germany, Great Britain, France and Italy.
According to the KLP, the interviews will be conducted in alphabetical order, with each candidate having 45 minutes. The process will be broadcast live by RTSH. Journalists will be present in the hall, while cameramen will only be allowed to film the introductory footage before the start of the session.
The four candidates who will undergo the hearing are:
Adnan Jolli
Doloreza Musabelliu
Elvin Gokaj
Klodian Braho
