The dismissal of Erion Veliaj and the election of his replacement is the greatest commitment of the Socialist Party, which has not wasted a single day since it mandated the fourth-term government. This is also noticeable with the decisions that followed one after the other from the Municipal Council to the Council of Ministers, where the latter did not wait an hour longer, notifying the CEC in record time about the vacancy created in the Municipality of Tirana.
The relevant letter states that on Thursday, September 25, immediately after the decision taken by the Council of Ministers, the CEC was also notified of Erion Veliaj's dismissal.
"At the meeting of the Council of Ministers, dated 25.09.2025, we inform you that decision no. 539, dated 25.9.2025, of the Council of Ministers, "On the dismissal from office of the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Erion Veliaj," the letter states.

However, the former mayor is using every opportunity the law gives him and this Monday he challenged the decision to dismiss him from the office of mayor of Tirana in the Constitutional Court.
Veliaj claims that the decision is illegal and unconstitutional. Meanwhile, Veliaj's appeal automatically suspends Prime Minister Edi Rama's signature on his dismissal and blocks the possibility of early elections for the municipality of Tirana until the Constitutional Court announces a decision on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court has also followed the lead of the socialists by immediately selecting today the judge who will review Veliaj's appeal. Sonila Bejtjan will be the rapporteur for the request made by the mayor of Tirana.
