Although the Democratic Party has set up a working group to discuss with other opposition forces to find the name of the candidate for Tirana, the leader of the Mundësia party, Agron Shehaj, has stated that negotiations with the DP have not yet taken place.
In a press conference, Shehaj was adamant that there will be no talks with the DP unless a decision is made in advance that the opposition candidate be outside politics, uncorrupted, and unifying for all opposition parties.
"If the DP calls us into negotiations to see the names they have selected, this is totally against what we believe. We will not sit in negotiations unless it has been previously decided that the candidate is outside of politics," said Shehaj.
But Shehaj's condition could be a warning that there will be no agreement between the two parties to run with the same candidate. This is due to the fact that DP representatives have publicly stated that a political candidate is one of the characteristics that the mayoral candidate will need to have.
However, it remains to be seen how much consensus the opposition forces will reach with the names of the DP, which Berisha said are several, but which so far have not been made public.
