Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku has made a move that reminds Kosovars of another “gift” from Edi Rama’s government, the infamous tax on Rruga e Kombit. In a post on social media, she announces that, ironically, she will lift this tax for one day only, on October 17, the day when a protest for the KLA commanders takes place in Tirana.
“Rruga e Kombit free of charge on October 17! 'Freedom has a name, Justice for the liberators',” writes Balluku, inviting everyone to unite in Tirana for “justice, dignity and truth” of Kosovo's liberation war.
But the effect of this “symbolic genius” is quite different. Instead of making a real difference, it only reminds thousands of Kosovo citizens that it was Edi Rama’s government that imposed this tax on them, despite the fact that the road is a state investment financed by Albanian taxes.
This "major action" shows more than words how hypocritical the government's approach towards Kosovo is, a relationship where Kosovo seems to serve only as a tool in the service of stale political patriotism.
