The next day in Tirana at 5:00 PM, a protest will be held in support of the former KLA leaders who are being tried in The Hague. However, the leading role of the head of the Albanian government, Edi Rama, apparently did not please the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
Through a long post on social media, Kurti emphasizes support for citizens protesting for justice, but did not spare direct criticism of Rama and other Albanian politicians who, according to him, have been among the main promoters of the establishment of the Special Court.
"Reflection is not a mistake, but in this regard, many of those who today oppose the Special Court were yesterday the biggest lobbyists for its establishment. A clear example is the current Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, who even came to Kosovo on an emergency visit by helicopter to convince the parties here to vote in favor of the establishment of this Court," Kurti writes.
He recalls that the VETËVENDOSJE! Movement has maintained a steadfast stance against this court since its inception, while emphasizing that justice must be in the service of the truth about the liberation war of the people of Kosovo.
Kurti also emphasizes that protests, no matter how powerful, are not enough without a concrete institutional commitment in international forums.
"Albania's institutions, as a member state of the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, NATO and the EU, have a responsibility to raise this issue in these forums, not only in 'Skënderbe' Square," Kurti emphasized.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo also recalled the origins of the Special Court, linking it to a 2008 resolution by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, initiated by Russian representatives and adopted upon the proposal of Senator Dick Marty in 2011.
According to Kurti, accusations that the KLA was a criminal enterprise are unfair and that Serbia is the one who should be tried for genocide and war crimes in Kosovo.
This statement comes at a time of growing tensions in Albanian public opinion, with a series of protests announced to demand the release of KLA leaders from the Special Court in The Hague.
