As an integral part of the DP, members and supporters of this party in Durrës held a meeting today called by Ervin Salianji, Ilir Alimehmeti and other local leaders, convinced that this party now needs a new way of organizing. Orest Berberi, a member of the youth forum of this party, opened this meeting by asking for more energy and hope for change, in a hall that was packed to the brim and enthusiastic about a new way of its functioning.
Local DP leaders in Durrës spoke about the necessity of change, as well as the role that young people should have in this process. Of course, they emphasized, the battle with the government must continue, but the DP needs reform, just as it needs the contribution of its leader. Of the same nature remains the issue of closed lists and the DP's approach to the new Electoral Reform Commission, which is still viewed with skepticism and as a new bargain between the majority and the opposition.
Ilir Alimehmeti also spoke at the meeting, giving the message that the DP must remain united towards its path of reform. While Ervin Salianji emphasized that another reason is the inability of the opposition, the DP, to be convincing, to bring Albanians to the ballot boxes, to win the elections.
"The local by-elections are a strong signal that each of us should read. Edi Rama managed to get 15 thousand voters out, despite the repression, in Vlora, but we were unable to get more than about 2500. The same thing in Berat, the same thing in Cërrik, the same thing in Tepelena. This made me reflect and understand that we need to listen to the democrats, why the democrats don't come out to vote," said Salianji.
