Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji, in an interview for the show "Opinion", explained the reasons why he has started meetings with grassroots democrats, addressing a series of criticisms of the current leadership of the DP and the manner of political reaction.
Salianji focused specifically on the DP's protest method, criticizing the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha. He stated that Edi Rama cannot leave the post of prime minister with "speeches and music under the office", referring to Monday's speeches.
"Berisha demands Rama's resignation, talking and playing music in front of Rama. The people stole the elections, do they know how to protest? If we don't have power and we didn't do it, that's our problem. I'm not one of those who tell you all the time they stole and come here to cry to you. The narrative that the DP has today that says that Rama can't win elections is demotivating for the citizens. The primaries were held, it was decided that the candidates for the primaries would come out of the primaries. The one who came out first in Tirana, in Kukës, Elbasan, no. Either we set a criterion for the vote or we set the responsibility of the one who decides. The structure is demotivated when we say one thing and do another, is it possible that a political party doesn't meet the citizens for 7 months. Have you seen them hold a meeting in 7 months in Durrës? Not a single meeting. You've seen them hold a meeting in Durrës after the elections, not a single meeting. I have the principle that the principle is more important than the names. Why did the DP come out now in "The podium after I had coffee set it in motion. These meetings have produced energy," said Salianji.
Continuing with the criticism, Salianji emphasized that the Democratic Party is not responding to the need for change and that the membership has clear demands for analysis and reorganization. According to him, the lack of meritocracy and the lack of motivation of the structures are weakening the party.
