Former Democratic Party MP Ervin Salianji continued his tour of meetings with members and supporters of the Democratic Party in Fier, where he was enthusiastically welcomed by the local party structures. During the meeting, Salianji did not spare criticism of the leaders of the Democratic Party, accusing them of obstructing the internal competition and of a profound lack of political responsibility.
According to Salianj, the DP is not the property of the president or the secretaries, but belongs to all the democrats who have carried the burden of the opposition over the years.
"The illusions of some DP leaders to not allow internal competition, in addition to the lack of political integrity, express the profound lack of historical responsibility for the sacrifices of the Democrats in 13 years of opposition. Imaginary exceptions, absurd labels, imaginary friends and enemies should no longer be added to our divisions. The Democratic Party is no one's property, it is neither mine, nor yours, nor the chairman's, nor the secretaries', it belongs to all the Democrats who sacrifice and carry the heavy burden of oppositionism on their shoulders. The Democratic Party is the property of the Democrats," he said.
Further, Salianji emphasized that the DP cannot claim change in the country without first reflecting and changing within itself. He assessed the first phase of meetings with the Democrats as successful, emphasizing that the main goal was to “awaken” the party from passivity.
"We cannot talk about change in Albania, while rejecting change in the DP. You have seen how in just two months, because of your movement and because of the thousands of citizens who have gathered for us in every corner of Albania, the DP has changed. You have organized the protests in front of the prime minister's office, you have enabled an analysis in the DP, you have made the deputies and leaders of the DP go out into the field because the DP was asleep. And the first phase of this movement, which was the awakening of the DP, has happened successfully", said Salianji.
The former Democratic MP also criticized the lack of coherence in the positions of the DP leadership, referring to contradictory statements on Territorial Reform and cooperation in parliamentary committees.
"We cannot say one thing in the morning and do another thing in the afternoon. Do you remember how when Edi Rama threw the DP leadership with the DP votes to elect the People's Advocate, they said that there is no more cooperation with Edi Rama. Meanwhile, they said for weeks, maybe even months, that we will no longer participate in the committees with Edi Rama. We heard all this, didn't we? And after they said that we will not participate, now they say yes we are participating, yes we are not participating," said Salianji.
At the end of his speech, Salianji sent another direct message to the DP leadership, stating that they had miscalculated with him, as he will not remain silent in the face of what he considers injustice.
