The next plenary session of the Albanian Parliament is being held today, with 14 items on the Agenda for consideration and approval.
One of the issues expected to cause debate and political tension is the draft decision on changes to the composition and functioning of the Special Commission for Administrative-Territorial Reform. The Socialist Party has proposed changing the representation formula in this commission, moving from a 50-50 split between the majority and the opposition, to a composition with 9 members from the majority and 8 from the opposition.
The changes also foresee a reformatting of the committee's leadership. Instead of two co-chairs, as has been the case so far, the new proposal establishes a chair from the Socialist Party and a vice-chair from the opposition. According to the socialists, this move aims to unblock and guarantee the normal continuation of the committee's work.
On the other hand, the opposition has spoken out against these changes. After boycotting yesterday's meeting of the Special Commission for Territorial Reform, the Socialists have announced that they will not withdraw from their request, which is expected to be reviewed and voted on today in the Assembly.
The plenary session will also discuss amendments to the law "On Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances", as well as the law "On Protection from Discrimination".
Also, an interpellation with the Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, requested by Freedom Party MP, Tedi Blushi, is planned.
The Agenda also includes the draft law "On the Prevention of Conflict of Interest in the Exercise of Public Functions", as well as the draft decision "On the Establishment of the Subcommittee on Sustainable Development", within the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, Infrastructure and Sustainable Development.
