The Democratic Party boycotted the Territorial Reform meeting again today, thus burning the last opportunity that the Socialist Party had given it to appear in the Commission. Thus, the opposition has given the Socialists reason to take other steps for this Commission, which they intend to close even without the presence of the Democrats.
But the opposition's next boycott was the next order of Sali Berisha, who trashed the statements of the parliamentary group leader, Gazment Bardhi, and MP Jorida Tabaku, who had claimed that the opposition would participate in the Commission.
At the Conference of Speakers meeting on January 29, Bardhi denied that the DP had boycotted the meeting, explaining that the absence of opposition MPs was related to other commitments and not a political decision, and that they would be present at the next meeting.
"We have not boycotted the meeting. On the two dates that were set for its holding, our members were not present due to other prior commitments. This does not constitute a boycott, but a physical absence for objective and justified reasons," Bardhi stated.
This was also reinforced by Democratic MP Jorida Tabaku, who in an interview with the media stated that the Democratic Party would participate in the commission and would not repeat the mistakes of the past.
"I think that the DP should not repeat the mistakes of the past and, secondly, it should be there in the institutions to fight there. There are many colleagues who say 'they don't take us into account, they don't include us', and this is the factual truth. But I think we are at a stage where we have shown how bad the governance is, but we should be there to fight our battle," said Tabaku.
However, the two democratic representatives seem not to have yet gotten used to the fact that decisions within the DP are made only by Berisha, who once again called their bluff in their public positions without getting his permission.
