The Central Election Commission has decided to provide the initiative group with a standard form for collecting citizens' signatures, with the aim of holding a general referendum on issues of particular importance.
The initiative group has addressed the CEC with a request to be provided with the standard form, aiming to pave the way for the referendum, which according to them aims to protect the family.
Representatives of the Initiative Committee for the "Pro-Family" Referendum have submitted to the Central Election Commission, on December 22, 2025, the request to initiate procedures for the holding of a general referendum, aimed at repealing Law No. 64, dated 6.11.2025, "On Gender Equality".
At the meeting held this Monday, the CEC decided to postpone the process, giving the initiative group time to more clearly reformulate the questions that will be addressed to citizens in the referendum.
According to the law, a general referendum requires at least 50,000 signatures from voters registered in the National Voter Register at the time of the request. The law also provides that the initiative group has 60 days to collect signatures.
