Although the embassies of European Union countries in Tirana have sufficient staff of translators and their statements are usually published in Albanian, Prime Minister Edi Rama appeared at a press conference today to present his version of the translation of statements by EU countries and the European Commission itself.
According to Rama, the problem does not lie in the reactions of European partners, but in the way they are read and interpreted in Albania. He claimed that the messages from EU countries do not contain any criticism of the majority's position.
In fact, yesterday's statements by European embassies and institutions, published in a synchronized manner and with the same content, are clear in both English and Albanian: the majority has obstructed justice.
Today's speech by the Prime Minister does not bring any new elements to the essence of the issue, but seems like an attempt to shift attention from the real problem to the interpretation of words. Instead of responding to the criticism of European partners, Rama has chosen to discuss its translation.
