Two days before the Constitutional Court is expected to rule on the case of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, the Prime Minister has found another way to put pressure on her. This time, with the concern of a statesman who fanatically guards the state's finances, he writes:
"Today the Constitutional Court is developing (unfortunately without live broadcast for technical reasons) the ugliest imaginable farce, which has been imposed on it by two associations of judges, who want to increase their salaries through litigation, breaking the state salary pyramid, while they are the highest paid category in Albania, as a result of the support that this governing majority gave, for the sake of Justice Reform, to the judicial power.
Now they want to be given the right to increase their own salaries in perpetuity whenever other salaries increase, so that Albania will forever be the only country in the world where judges are paid more than anyone else, taking away the constitutional powers of the government and parliament for salary policy. This is a logical, moral, legal and constitutional scandal, which I hope the Constitutional Court will never allow to turn into a national shame!
Respect to SPAK for not joining this nonsense in the name of judicial independence????
The prime minister's reaction comes at a delicate moment, when the Constitutional Court is expected to rule on a matter that directly affects the government and one of its most important figures. The language used, unusual for a prime minister addressing a constitutional institution, raises serious questions about the boundary between political opinion and public pressure on a body that is expected to decide on legality.
The frontal attack on judges, accompanied by labels such as "farce", "national shame" or "foolishness", while at the same time SPAK is exempted from criticism and publicly congratulated, creates a clear division between "good" institutions and those that, in this case, are declared problematic.
Essentially, the concern expressed about the "wage pyramid" and state finances sounds selective, especially when it comes from a government that has approved unilateral wage increases, bonuses, and special schemes for certain sectors, according to the political interest of the moment.
In a state governed by the rule of law, the Constitutional Court is expected to speak with decisions, not respond to social media posts. But the timing of the reaction and the tone used by the prime minister make it difficult not to read this stance as a message of pressure on an institution that after two days has a great deal of weight to carry.
