Following the government's announcement that a 2.5% increase in pensions will take effect today, a reaction has come from the leader of the "Bashkë" Movement, Arlind Qori.
He considers this indexation as a mockery of Albanian pensioners, who according to him are among the poorest in Europe.
"Edi Rama is making fun of pensioners. With a 2.5% increase, a pensioner with a minimum pension receives less than 3 thousand old lek more per month, and one with an average pension only 4 thousand old lek. This means two bottles of milk or two bottles of yogurt more per month," - declares Qori.
According to him, in a country where a pensioner cannot live on his pension alone, strong social measures and the establishment of a living wage are needed.
"Edi Rama has promised that the average pension would be 400 euros. For this to happen, an increase of at least 50 euros was needed every year. Instead, give us 3-4 euros. Are you ready to protest, to demand justice for your labor and work?" - Qori appeals directly to over 700 thousand pensioners in the country.
